Taylor Swift wins 4 Trophies at the AMA’s
Taylor Swift became the first person to win ‘Artist of the Year’ for the third time at the American Music Awards last ngiht, beating Justin Timberlake, Rihanna and Bruno Mars to gain the record. She also came out the winner in three other categories, picking up trophies for ‘Favourite Female Artist – Pop/Rock’, ‘Favourite Female Artist – Country’ and ‘Favourite Album – Country’, making up a fantastic night for the 23 year old.
When receiving her final award, the singer said in her speech “This validates that if you voted for this, that we are heartbroken in the same way and we fall in love the same way and we’re happy in the same way, and if you listen to this, we’re on the same page … we’re pretty much in it together.”
Justin Timberlake and One Direction also came up trumps, with the former winning three awards and the latter collecting two. Justin Timberlake beat Bruno Mars and Robin Thicke to win “Favourite Male Artist – Pop/Rock”, as well as coming out on top in the category for “Favourite Male Artist – Soul/RnB” and getting the award for “Favourite Album – Soul/RnB”. “Take Me Home” won One Direction the prize for “Favourite Album – Pop/Rock” whilst they were also voted “Favourite Band – Pop/Rock”.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis led the way in terms of nominations prior to the awards night, and they also picked up two awards, winning “Favourite Artist – Rap/Hip-Hop” and “Favourite Album” under the same music genre.
Rihanna’s mum was also on hand to make a special appearance, presenting the Icon award to who else but her own daughter, in a proud and emotional scene.
