Sports Personality of the Year: Shortlist Revealed
The ten candidates for this year’s Sport’s Personality of the Year have been chosen, but only one can pick up the trophy.
The expert panel will face a tough decision when it comes to choosing a winner, with some fantastic sporting achievements between the nominations. Obvious contenders such as Andy Murray, Chris Froome and Mo Farah are included, along with Christine Ohuruogu, Hannah Cockroft, Justin Rose, Ben Ainslie, Ian Bell, AP McCoy and Leigh Halfpenny.
The awards evening will be hosted on the 15th December by Gary Lineker, Clare Balding & Gabby Logan and this year online voting will be introduced for the first time, so it will be even easier for you to put your vote in for who should receive the award.
Andy Murray is no doubt one of the front runners, becoming the first British man to win Wimbledon in 77 years in July. After finishing third last year, the Wimbledon title looks pretty likely to guarantee him this year’s trophy. Bookies have already paid out for Murray, but is it definitely set in stone?
Chris Froome dominated in 2013’s Tour de France whilst England’s convincing win in the summer’s Ashes series was largely helped by Ian Bell and he can therefore not be overlooked. AP McCoy rode his 4,000th winner this year and Halfpenny starred in the British and Irish Lions triumphant tour of Australia. Already you can see the trouble that the voting panel are going to be in!
Seven other awards will be given out on the night, including “Team of the Year”, “Overseas Sports Personality of the Year” and “Sports Unsung Hero”.
