Sporting Weekend Preview
Thank god it’s Friday, and what better to look forward to than a whole weekend of fantastic sporting action. We’ve got the pick of what’s going on this weekend as club football returns and England look to fight their way back in the first test of the Ashes.
In the Barclays Premiership this weekend it’s hard to look past the Merseyside Derby, which kicks off at 12:45pm on Saturday, with two teams who have made great starts to the season coming face to face in one of the biggest games on the football calendar. This could be a great indication of whether either team’s early-season form will last, with a high pressure game and bragging rights at stake. Another clash between two high flying teams comes at the Emirates, with Arsenal hosting the in-form Southampton. This could finally see a break in the Southampton defence as Arsenal are looking formidable at home but it will certainly be a tough test for them.
In the Championship, Friday night’s match is a six-pointer in the fight against relegation with Doncaster hosting Yeovil. The home side are hoping to start on-loan Federico Macheda and he could be the difference between the two sides, having already shown he can finish in the Premiership. At the other end of the table, league leaders Burnley face tough opposition in the form of Nottingham Forest as they will be looking to close the gap on the top 3.
Elsewhere, day 3 of the Ashes will resume at midnight tonight with England finding themselves in a very unfavourable position. They collapsed from 82-2 to 136 all out in a disastrous second afternoon. It was all looking very promising as they bowled Australia out for 295 but that is now looking like a good score in comparison, and day 3 begins with Australia 224 runs in the lead. It’s going to take a lot for England to take anything from the first test but after the action of the first two days you’d be silly not to tune in tonight.
In Rugby, England aren’t involved in any internationals this weekend. Ireland host New Zealand on Sunday, having never beaten the all blacks, whilst in the premiership it’s Leicester v London Irish and Exeter v Saracens.
The Brazilian Grand prix practices are currently underway, building up to the big finale on Sunday, and Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton have been setting the pace this morning but it will take a lot to beat Sebastian Vettel who is after his ninth win in a row.
With all that and more, this weekend is bound to throw up some surprises in the race for trophies and you wouldn’t want to miss it!
