Raheem Sterling Leaving Liverpool?
England’s fifth youngest international player has had quite a career already. At just 20 years old, Raheem Sterling has already achieved a great deal more than some footballers do in their entire career. At the moment, he is having issues with his first club, Liverpool FC. When he was just 17 years old, the team took him on to play for them. Since then, Raheem has had many successes and played well for the one-time successful club. Now, though, it would appear that the player has his sights set on new goals. Liverpool’s manager, Brendan Rodgers, has to face the fact that the footballer no longer wants to stay with the club.
With interest from both Arsenal and Manchester City, the player certainly has options when it comes to his new club. Raheem has stated that he would like to leave Liverpool, but the club officials have placed a £50-million value on him. That is to say that if a club can’t match that fee, he will not get a chance to move during this transfer window. Raheem has two years left on his contract with Liverpool but fears that his market value will decrease in that period. If he wants to make it big in the football world, he needs to strike now, rather than later in his career.
At the moment, Manchester City have made two separate bids for the player. The first was for a fee of £25 million, but the Liverpool bosses rejected this one right away. It is nowhere near their asking price, and it would appear that they will not settle for less. The second bid that Man City made was for £35 million, but Liverpool also rejected this offer. It is likely that the bosses at Man City will make another offer during the transfer period. If the bid is closer to the £50-million mark than the previous two offers, Liverpool may have no other choice but to accept it.
So, why does Raheem want to leave his first ever football club? Well, there has been much speculation surrounding this topic, but most people have come to the same conclusion. There is little to no chance of glory with the current team, which means that he is unlikely to win a trophy any time soon. With the likes of Man City, though, he has a much better chance of success. The Mancunian team have a strong recent history of success stories, which is why they may seem appealing to the player.
In the last 5 seasons they have lifted five trophies, including two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the Football League Cup and the FA Community Shield. It is clear to see why Raheem would like to move to this club. Although he has publicly stated that the move would not be for glory, that does not seem to be the case. And, who can blame him? All footballers want to win trophies, and he is no different.
