Are Liverpool Genuine Title Contenders This Year
They may have slipped down to 4th place at the weekend, but a convincing display against Norwich last night, and yet another hat-trick (plus one) for Luis Suarez, and Liverpool are looking a very different team to that of recent seasons.
Suarez wasn’t happy with just another hat-trick, and struck a stunning free-kick for the 4th before turning provider to Raheem Stirling to round off the win after Bradley Johnson had grabbed a consolation goal for the canaries. Luis Suarez has now created history with 11 goals in 4 appearances against Norwich, beating Ian Rush’s previous record. He has now taken the outright lead in the race for the Premier League’s top scorer and if he continues in this form, there’s no denying that Liverpool could prove to be serious contenders for the Premier League Trophy.
With their rivals all picking up wins last night, it leaves Liverpool in 4th after their disappointing defeat at Hull over the weekend. And the Christmas period could be the real test as to whether they remain in the hunt for the duration of the season, with tough encounters against Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham before the new year. Their position on New Year’s Day will really tell whether they are going to make a genuine push to pick up those winners medals in May.
